Straighten scans that came out crooked
Almost no scan comes out perfectly straight. Feed a sheet through a scanner a fraction off-square, photograph a page at a slight angle, or lay a book unevenly on the glass, and the result is a page where the text leans a few degrees off horizontal. On its own each page might look only slightly off, but across a document the tilt is distracting, looks unprofessional, and quietly undermines anything that reads the text automatically. Deskewing measures how far each page is rotated and turns it back so the lines of text sit level again.
The fix is subtle but makes a real difference: a straightened document reads more comfortably, prints more neatly, and looks like it was produced with care. It's the kind of clean-up step that separates a casual phone capture from a document you'd happily attach to an application or send to a client.
Why straightening matters beyond appearance
Deskewing isn't only cosmetic — it's one of the most effective ways to improve the accuracy of optical character recognition. OCR engines expect text to run horizontally, and even a small tilt forces them to work harder and make more mistakes, because letters that should line up neatly instead drift across the grid the engine uses to read them. Straightening the pages first gives the recogniser clean, level lines to work with, which is why deskewing before running the OCR PDF tool tends to produce markedly better, more reliable text.

What causes a scanned PDF to be skewed?
Skew creeps in whenever paper isn't perfectly aligned: a sheet fed in at a slight angle, a page photographed slightly rotated, or a book pressed unevenly on a flatbed. Even a couple of degrees is enough to make a document look careless and to hurt text recognition.
Does deskewing change the words on the page?
No. It only rotates each page to level; the content is untouched. What changes is the orientation, so lines of text run horizontally as they should.
Should I deskew before running OCR?
Yes — straight text is much easier for optical character recognition to read accurately, so deskewing first and then running OCR usually gives noticeably cleaner results than OCR on a tilted scan.
Is my document processed privately?
Yes. Skew detection and correction run entirely in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
