Removing password protection from PDFs you own
Password-protecting a PDF is good security practice when sending sensitive files. But once the file arrives and is stored safely, the password becomes an inconvenience: every time you open the document, you type the password again. Shared drives, internal archives, and personal filing systems often hold hundreds of PDFs whose passwords serve no ongoing purpose but slow down everyday access.
This tool removes the encryption from a PDF when you provide the correct password. The result is an identical document that opens without a prompt — ready to file, share internally, or include in a larger document. It is not a hacking tool: you must know the password. It simply saves you from typing it every time you open the file.
How the decryption works
When you enter the password, the tool derives the decryption key using the same key-derivation function that was used during encryption. It then decrypts every content stream in the PDF and writes out a new file with no encryption layer. The content — text, images, fonts, metadata — is bit-for-bit identical to what the original author created. Only the encryption wrapper is removed.
The password you enter never leaves your browser. It exists in memory only for the duration of the decryption operation and is discarded as soon as the unlocked PDF is generated. There is no server involved, no account, and no log of what you unlocked.
When to unlock and practical advice
Accountants unlock password-protected bank statements received from clients so they can merge them into a single audit file. Lawyers unlock discovery documents to annotate and Bates-stamp them. Office workers unlock internal reports whose password everyone already knows so the files can be archived without the repeated password prompt.
Only unlock documents you are authorised to access — this tool requires the correct password precisely because it is designed for legitimate use by the document's owner or authorised recipient. After unlocking, store the file in a secure location — without encryption, the document's content is accessible to anyone who can open the file. And if the document contains sensitive information that will be shared further, consider re-encrypting with a new password appropriate for the next recipient.

Do I need to know the password?
Yes. This tool decrypts a PDF using the password you provide — it does not crack or bypass passwords. You must already know the correct password to unlock the file.
Will the unlocked PDF look different?
No. The content is identical — same text, images, fonts, and layout. The only difference is that the encryption wrapper is removed, so the file opens without a password prompt.
Does it remove printing and editing restrictions too?
Yes. When you decrypt the file with the user password, all restrictions (no-print, no-copy, no-edit) are also removed because those permissions were enforced by the encryption layer.
Is my password sent to a server?
No. The decryption runs entirely in your browser. The password exists only in your browser's memory during the operation and is never transmitted anywhere.
