About Crop Image
Crop a photo in your browser. Drag a box or pick a shape: square, 4:5, 16:9, a 9:16 story or a 35 by 45 mm passport photo. Rotate in 90 degree steps, set an output width, and save as JPEG or PNG. Nothing is uploaded.
A crop that stays on your device
Cropping is among the most common things people do to a photograph, and most of the sites that offer it send the picture to a server to do it. There is no need: your browser can draw a part of a picture onto a new canvas and save it. That is all a crop is, and here it happens on your device.
Drag the box, or choose a shape and let the box fit itself. The shape presets are the ones people ask for: square for profile pictures and posts, 4:5 for portrait posts, 16:9 for banners and video thumbnails, 9:16 for stories, and the 35 by 45 mm proportion most passport and visa photographs use.
Rotate, scale, save
Rotate in steps of 90 degrees if the picture is on its side, then crop. If the result needs to be narrower, type a width and the picture is scaled to it with its proportions kept. Save as JPEG for photographs or PNG when sharpness at hard edges matters, such as a screenshot.
Cropping often comes before another step. After a crop you can compress the picture, resize it to an exact KB limit for a portal, or turn it into a PDF, each in one click from the result screen.
Questions
Everything runs in your browser. How we keep files private
How do I crop to an exact shape?
Pick a shape: Square, 4:5, 3:4, 4:3, 16:9, 9:16 or Passport. The box snaps to the largest one of that shape that fits the picture. Drag it into place and resize it from a corner; the shape stays fixed. Choose Free to draw any rectangle.
Does the Passport shape give me a ready passport photo?
It gives you the right proportion, 35 by 45 mm, which is 7:9. The picture's pixel size and the file size your portal wants are separate rules. Crop here, then use Resize Image to KB to set the exact pixels and the KB limit.
Does cropping lose quality?
Pixels outside the box are removed and the rest are kept as they are. Saving as JPEG re-compresses the picture at a high quality (92); PNG keeps every pixel exactly. If you set an output width smaller than the crop, the picture is scaled down.
Why did my photo turn the right way up?
Phones save a photo sideways and add a note saying which way is up. The tool reads that note, so you crop what you saw on your phone. The saved file is turned the right way, with no note needed.
Is the picture uploaded?
No. The picture is drawn and cropped in your browser, and the result is made there too. See the Security page for how to check.
